HEP Samba Accounts for Windows Access

To access HEP file stores (such as your user area) and HEP printers from the Managed Windows System you will need a samba account. This can be added at any point, see the system administrators. If your MWS username and HEP username are different tell the system administrators so that mapping between account names can be added.

Changing your Samba password

To access HEP samba systems it is necessary for your samba password and the password MWS uses for that server to be the same. When you initially enter your samba password ensure that it is the same as your MWS password.

If you need to manually change your samba password, do so by using

  • ssh hep.ph.liv.ac.uk
  • smbpasswd

using your old samba password for Old Password and setting New Password to your new samba password (usually your current MWS password). You will need to log in to gateway.ph.liv.ac.uk first if you are off site.
