Using LHCb heavy quark data to test the Standard Model

by Dr. Rhorry Gauld (IPPP Durham)

Wednesday 04 March 2015 from 14:30 to 15:30 (UTC)
at Chadwick Building ( Barkla Lecture Theatre )
Description
Heavy quark (c,b,t) pair production at hadron colliders is well understood both experimentally and theoretically within the SM framework. In the first part of this talk I will discuss how differential cross section measurements of heavy quarks at LHCb can provide unique information about the distributions of partons inside the proton. In the second part, I will consider how measurements of production asymmetries of these heavy quarks can be used to test the SM. Throughout the talk, I will compare the available LHCb data to SM predictions.
