Latest Results from the ALPHA Experiment and Upgrades for the Next Run

by Dr. Petteri Pusa (University of Liverpool)

Wednesday 08 October 2014 from 14:30 to 15:30 (Europe/London)
at Chadwick Building ( Barkla Lecture Theatre )
Description
The ALPHA -experiment, placed at CERN's Antiproton Decelerator, has the ultimate goal of clarifying the atomic structure of antihydrogen for comparing it with hydrogen, serving as a test for the CPT-symmetry with high precision.
There are great technical challenges in producing the neutral antimatter into a state where it can be properly studied. ALPHA has now reached these milestones, and is currently preparing for laser access for the trapped neutral antimatter to be studied.
This talk will give an overview of the recent milestones of ALPHA and the description of the current update.
