My first task at the FLNR became modification of semi-automatic
vacuum and gas supply systems for the FOBOS setup. A lot of new
components: rotary pumps, turbo-molecular pumps, cryogenic pumps,
valve gates, electronic watchdogs and alarms were installed and
adapted to the existing equipment. Several subsystems: pressure
controllers, gas flow controllers, electrical panels and power
supplies were upgraded. Then the computer interface to the SIMATIC
S5 processor system was extended by G.Renz and the control software
was rewritten by D.May and C.Umlauf.
FOBOS was an international project with a grant financing.
A special attention was paid to make all detectors and their
environment flexible to be used in other physical experiments.
Thus a single gaseous module was planned for a Q3D facility at
the FLNR, developed in collaboration between JINR (Dubna, Russia),
INRNE (Sofia, Bulgaria), LTRD (Sofia, Bulgaria), INP (Rez, Czech
Republic), INR (Kiev, Ukraine), GANIL (Caen, France), HMI (Berlin,
Germany), IAP (Bucharest, Romania). The double-base spectrometer
with a diagonal or asymmetrical arrangement of two detectors was
proposed for the beam experiment at RIKEN (Japan).
