Minutes of the Liverpool pixel meeting on 23 Oct 2012. Present: Gian, Dean, Ilya, Paul (by phone), Sergey. Discussion points: 1) Devices for the tests a) Too few devices are available for the tests. a) List of measurements? b) Ready for the data taking (trigger, source) c) How they can be biased? d) Can we bias them to 1kV? e) Edge treatment f) 25x500? 2) Data reconstruction a) Kate (Glasgow) is the UK person responsible for the reconstruction of the testbeam data. b) We need to have a possibility to reconstruct the testbeam data ourselves. 3) PCB status a) We have 20 PCBs which seems to be not working properly 4) New wafers a) New or no edge implants 5) Preparation for the testbeam in March a) Quads to be irradiated in Birmingham Actions: Dean and Paul to provide the list of pixel devices. Dean to provide the list of data samples from the testbeams and information on the testbeam reconstruction. Ilya and Dean to debug and fix the PCBs. Ashley's help? Sergey to create the Liverpool ATLAS pixel twiki page and look at the testbeam reconstruction software. Past activities: Dean/Paul please tabulate the all history of irradiated pixel devices and their availability/location. Plan for next neutron irradiation depends on the present status. Need to cumulate significant data mass with the various geometry devices. Comments: in progress. Test-beam activity: plans for the coming last CERN beam-time to be sketched (again, on the basis of the available devices).... Comments: in progress. Ilya: fix the trigger output signal from the discriminator/coincidence board to comply with USB-Daq requirements. Comments: Trigger: Based on plastic scintillator and HPK 6780 PMT (1ns rise time, 10ns pulse width, negative pulse polarity, 12V power supply, minimum threshold, noise-free) Converter box: 50Ohm input impedance, peak-detector + polarity inverter based on AD8034 + comparator TLV3501 with hardware threshold. Output: 3.5V on 50Ohm load, pulse width > 60ns, positive (!) polarity. Pulse delay ~ 10ns, delay jitter - negligible. Circuit diagram to be provided. Functionality test with Sr-90 beta source - OK. Sergey to be made aware of the geometry of the new pixel mask. Comments: Done but at this point it doesn't propagate anywhere. Ilya to think about integrating USB-Daq into our telescope (interest from the pixel community, Dean to present the telescope to them....). Comments: Spartan-3E board to be used to interface USB-daq to the Alibava telescope. It will send the PMT coincidence signal to the USB-daq and telescope and block other trigger signals for certain time to let both systems digitise an event (telescope needs ~ 3us, USB-daq latency to be measured). Each system has to be responsible for its auto-reset upon event readout. Synchronisation of two independent DAQs to be discussed. Article to be written after Pixel 2012 (Paul will start the draft). Comments: ? Gian, Ilya, Sergey and Torkjell to learn to use the Liverpool USB-Daq in view of measurement campaign. Comments: Dean has shown the setup to Sergey and Ilya. Slides with instructions are needed. Everybody: who can sit at the coming UK module pixel meeting to ask/look at status of the quad readout (Japanese board, Manchester multiplexing status). Comments: Ilya is designing Quad support card to be readout by the new USB-daq (Bonn University). Each FE-I4 chip will have its own power supply and readout chain (two readout options are included: via 50-pin ribbon cable or via RJ45 ethernet jack) Tim should be involved for the mechanical/thermal activity (not imminent, but....). Comments: Possibly we will have a project student who will work on thermal properties.
