Panel Metrology

ZOT/Stevenage panels with + shaped fiducials

The measurement program for the smartscope requires very few user interactions at the begin:

In the document below the program steps are discussed. It also includes tips to measure the etch quality.

To analyse the output file the attached excel spreadsheet can be used:

The expected positions of the fiducials have been calculated, based on the coordinates from the panel design file. The used values can be seen in the 'Expected Values' sheet of the analysis file. All calculated numbers are based on the numbers with a yellow background and whenever possible these cells are referenced. The sheet '!ExpectedData' shows the expected values again in the same format as the output file, to allow easy comparisons.

To analyse a new measurement the following steps are required:
  • open the analysis spreadsheet with excell
  • open the output file with excel
    • it is important to choose the right options when importing the csv file so that all columns are separated
  • cope the measurement results
  • go to the 'Measurement' sheet in the analysis file
  • paste the measurement values by clicking on the top left cell (A1);
    • right click to open the special paste options
    • choose 'Values' (this will only paste the numbers, but keep the format of the spreadsheet, including the colours)
  • go to the 'Summary' sheet to see all the plots

In the 'Measurement' sheet the cells which contain the comments as well as the step numbers and the step title are in green because they have no influence on the analysis. The red cells are used for numbers that are not important or are not used. For example the Z coordinates from points is not used because the height measurements are done separately. All numbers with a white background are important and used for the analysis.

Flex height

To measure the height of the flex with respect to the FR4 a new program is used, which utilized the touch probe. Measured are the landing pads, the FR4 close to the hybrid caps and the ASIC pads. For each hybrid the FR4 plane is created and set as 0, then the other points are written to file. This allows to check the flatness of a hybrid with respect to the FR4 carrier and also look at the landing pad heights.

Comments:

Height difference between Panel landing pads and ASIC pads caused by adhesive (bondply) that connects laminate to FR4 (frame) but is not under the hybrid

approximately 50um height difference -> seen with smartscope

Most of the 0201 capacitors (data lines...) are missing (expected by Norcott due to very small size of components).

All Stevenage hybrids lifted from panel (large bow without vacuum), Zot panels are fine.

RP1 and RP2 wrong orientation (and some are missing)
